There are various styles of 2d animation, we’ll cover that in a further section of this blog.

India’s Rich Culture in Storytelling
India has a graceful history in animation. We all have seen shadow-puppet traditional animations to convey stories. Our Indian culture is rich in stories and methods of conveying them.
Just take a look at our most loved Indian Animations, like Chhota Bheem, Motu Patlu, Chaar Sahibzaade and Hanuman shows. These shows have been created in India , quite ahead of their time.
Every kid in Indian Households absolutely loves Motu Patlu, Chhota Bheem or Hanuman cartoons. 2D Animation has beautifully become a way of educating kids and expanding their knowledge on various cultures.
We feel so proud to say that RAM MOHAN, an Indian Animator, Title designer is known as the “Father of Indian Animation”. His film credits are an endless list of popular films and ground-breaking ideas. Ram Mohan served as the Lead-animator in one of the most- popular animations being “Ramayana -the Legend of Prince Rama” along with a Japanese co-production.
Heard about Anime?
Anime is the new concept that has captured every young and old heart. Anime basically refers to a Hand-Drawn Animation Style that originated from Japan and Japanese arts. The notable key difference between animation & anime is that the Anime Characters Have Doe-Like Eyes and slender bodies. Japanese Manga Books and comics are a valuable source of entertainment and a resource to look for.
Examples of anime include:
- Jujutsu Kaisen
- Naruto
- Hai-kyu
- Pokemon
- Dragon Ball Z
Types of Animation:
Animation has 2 types at the core level.
Let us see, what’s the difference?
Traditional Animation:
Traditional Animation is the technique where all the frames of motion are first hand-drawn on different pages of paper and then flipped together fastly to create the illusion of motion. In the old days, Animators used to hand-draw 100s of sketchbooks to create just a 5 minute animation.
Now, thankfully, this process has boiled into a simple method. You can use any 2D animation software as well to bring life to your characters.
Computer Animation:
Computer animation is the new-age animation which makes our craft a lot more efficient and better. Computer animation involves the use of Softwares that handles the mechanics better and frees our imagination to focus more on the creative aspect. Use of Adobe Animate, Harmony, ToonBoom Animation, TV Paint, these are advanced softwares that help us to make appealing animated graphics.
2D /3D Animation
2D Animation is traditionally drawn on paper to imitate the motion of a scene. It requires the use of cells, which are simply hand drawn characters on clear cellophane sheets, that are placed on backgrounds. It was a clever move to show motion without having to draw the same background every time. Contrastingly, 3D Animation involves the use of 3D objects placed in softwares. It works on the concept of keyframes.
Frames are stop-motions in time that denote a specific action/pose being done.Keyframes are special frames that mark a specific spot in the time span/timeline.
Computer animation functions on Keyframe animation, in both, 2D & 3D Animating styles. 3D objects are modeled, then manipulated to add in keyframes.
